Defective Ram Slot

This guide will require installing and removing DIMMs from motherboard to specific DIMM slots.

1. Please insure that the system is turned off while removing memory. Remove all but one DIMM of RAM.

Defective Ram Slot

2. Single DIMM should start in DIMM_A1.

3. Start system up and confirm that the system posts to BIOS/OS.

  • Physical abuse- trying to push the wrong size ram into the wrong slot, pushing the ram inn the wrong way, using a physical device like s screw driver in the shots, letting some metal touch the electrodes whilst the power in on, pushing in our removing the ram from their slots whilst the power is on.
  • Look for these sympthoms as they are an indication of a failing RAM chip, or a bad DIMM socket on the mobo. The system freezes up at random times during bootup: during POST; at the Windows logo; just before login screen; right after login; System turns on, and stays on but never even reaches post; Note that read/write memory errors are not on the list here.
Defective Ram Slot

Hi Madhur, I recently upgraded my pc having 4gb RAM with an additional 4gb RAM with 64bit OS. It worked fine for 4 days. Then the old ram got faulty. I tested in both the slots but didnt work. I tried the OVEN method yet it didnt work. Is it a case of incompatibility. Can this RAM be repaired or should i go for a new one. The worst 'defect' I've run into in a RAM slot was a couple of dust bunnies making contact marginal and resulting in obscure memory errors. Even if I could solder, I don't think I'd ever contemplate a repair on something as complicated as the RAM slot by anyone other than the ODM. If you have two different brands of 1x8gb RAM, for a total of 16gb, this can cause problems. As well as different timings, speed, etc. If you bought two of the same RAM sticks, but didn't buy them in a package together, this can, in some situations, cause problems. Some RAM of the same types will have different ICs, later in productions.

4. If the system posts normally, shut off system and continue to install one additional DIMM until the system fails to post to BIOS/OS.

When installing DIMM should hear/feel a click when DIMMs are installed correctly.

Use the following Guide for optimal memory configuration depending on how many DIMMs system has.

5. If the system fails to post remove last DIMM installed and set aside, continue from last DIMM slot and install another stick. Tangiers poker chips for sale near me. (repeat with any other failed DIMMs)

6. If multiple sticks fail in the same DIMM slot install a confirmed working DIMM and verify if the slot is bad. (Make note of defective slot using DIMM guide DIMM_D1, etc.)
